What we can — and cannot — promise
The boundaries, stated as plainly as the strengths.
A beta read that tells you only what it is good at has told you half of what you need to decide. So both halves are on this page, in the same size type. If something here is a limit, we would rather you met it now than discovered it later.
What The Reader’s Verdict can do
Identify patterns and potential reader-experience problems
Every page is read, first to last, under controlled conditions, and what happened to the reader is recorded where it happened. Every finding is tied to its location and supporting evidence in your manuscript — with a quoted line whenever one exists.
Explain why a finding may matter
Not only what was flagged, but what it did to the reader at that point in the story, and what it costs this story in particular rather than stories in general.
Suggest areas and approaches to consider
More than one wherever more than one is honest, because one approach is a prescription. Each comes with an example that demonstrates the principle.
Preserve your voice, your style and your intent
The voice you arrive with is the voice you leave with. Suggestions are phrased as considerations and close on your decision, every time.
What The Reader’s Verdict cannot do
- It cannot promise that every reader will agree with the findings. One controlled read is one controlled read.
- It cannot determine who wrote a manuscript. AI Pattern Recognition is pattern recognition, not authorship determination — never a percentage, never a probability, never an accusation.
- It does not replace a human editor, and it never claims to. A developmental or line editor does a different job, held to a different standard.
- It does not rewrite your manuscript. Not a paragraph, not a line, not even to show you what a suggestion means.
- It does not make your creative decisions. Apply, modify or decline — every decision is yours, in your own words, and a decline is final and is never re-argued.
The Reader’s Verdict reviews the manuscript for language patterns commonly associated with AI-assisted writing and flags areas worth a closer look. These are pattern observations, not claims of authorship. No human or AI system can determine authorship with absolute certainty.
None of those are limits we found and worked around. They are the shape of the thing on purpose: the pen stays yours.
On speed, and on when your read is finished
A beta read here typically finishes in a working session rather than a season, because there is no scheduling, no fatigue and no queue of other people’s books in front of yours. That is not a fixed clock, and we will not print one.
Turnaround is subject to manuscript length, file condition, and system availability; and end to end, most reads are faster than you expect.
And the second line matters more than it looks.
Your beta read is complete when your deliverables reach you. Your briefs are yours to keep, forever.
Writing in another language? It’s coming.
Today The Reader’s Verdict reads manuscripts written in English. Native-language reads are coming soon, and each language opens only once it has been proven on real full-length novels written in it. If you would like to hear the moment yours opens, write to us: support@lovingmywords.com.
